Mission

Maximize business value by aligning R&D projects with the company strategy, balancing risks and making the best use of resources. Secure use of project and portfolio management best practices on planning, monitoring, reporting and managing.

Tasks & Responsibilities

•    Support the R&D portfolio strategy and roadmap definition, monitoring, optimization, and re-alignment.
•    Establish the project selection criteria and metric definition and guide the project selection criteria to build the portfolio.
•    Coordinate the analysis, review, and prioritization of the R&D Portfolio in close coordination with Drug Discovery, Marketing and Finance departments.
•    Lead the annual R&D Portfolio Review exercise to provide the Pipeline Committee with a project prioritization list based on the R&D Portfolio Analysis, the value of the development projects and their expected investments needs for next years.
•    Monitor construction of a steady state portfolio through the analysis impact of new BD&L opportunities.
•    Establish and lead a regular update of the portfolio tools (e.g.; Enrich Portfolio System) to enable portfolio analysis and decisions.
•    Support Project Managers (PM) to validate project PTRS, risks, value and priorities.
•    In coordination with the R&D Finance department, develop the budget and regular forecasts of the portfolio.
•    Support the CSO on the strategy analysis and change management decisions to continue improvement of the R&D organization.
•    Ensure best practices in project and portfolio management standards and methodologies are implemented and continue improvement culture in place.    
•    Maintain and exploit R&D productivity benchmarking data.
•    Manage the R&D Projects in collaboration with the Project Leader (PL) defining the strategic plans and scenarios internally and with the partner (if applies)
•    Ensure proper Alliance management of the programs or projects, from candidate to phase II stage and collaborate with Corporate Alliance Management from phase III onwards.
•    Monitor and analyze project critical path, timelines, budget expenses and actions to meet project goals.
•    Manage project communication, setting agendas, facilitating meetings, developing minutes, and ensuring right distribution of project information within the team.
•    Report and present project plans, risk management activities and budget aspects to decision making committees (R&DSC ,R&DPC, MB, IEC).
•    Ensure proper reporting of R&D portfolio progression to top management on a regular basis.
•    Coordinate project due diligence with possible partners
•    Create and maintain the project plans, including internal and external resources.
•    Participate in all activities within the R&D Project, Portfolio and partnership Excellence department as required and any other required by the Head of the department.

Education

  • Bachelor’s or Ph.D. degree on scientific area (Biology, Pharmacy, Biotechnology, Chemistry) 
  • PMP certification and /or MBA/Business master preferred

Experience & Specific expertise

•    Previous experience in R&D within the pharmaceutical industry or biotech. Minimum 10 years of experience
•    Understanding of the overall R&D process
•    Analytical and synthetic skills
•    Ability to simplify complex situations
•    Self-motivation and resilience under pressure Organisational and prioritisation skills.
•    Presentation skills, with the ability to adjust discourse according to audience
•    Proficient in spoken and written English
•    Experience with planning tools
•    Computer tools (user level)
