Reporting to the Corporate Communications Executive Director, this role will have crucial accountabilities in the Spanish market company of Almirall – supporting the local organisation and the General Manager to achieve their ambition to further grow our diverse business in Spain.

Spain is the biggest and most important market for Almirall. Because of the broad portfolio of products, we are offering in our founding country, and our ambition to grow in medical dermatology with the introduction of leading technologies such as biologics, Spain is at the forefront of Communications needs and opportunities.

The key responsibility of this role is the development and execution of the holistic communications strategy and plan for the company in Spain, in alignment with the business ambition and the corporate communications strategy.

The candidate will work closely with the General Manager of the Spanish business and will be a member of the local leadership team. They will have the opportunity and accountability to create and shape the communication strategy and execution in the Spanish market organisation of Almirall – building on existing assets and channels and applying innovative approaches to deliver strategic, relevant, and impactful communication to external and internal target audiences.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Shape communications in the Spanish market organisation of Almirall (lead strategy creation, planning, and execution) – key focus on external communications, with a responsibility to coordinate and execute local internal communications within the market company and in close collaboration with the corporate internal Comms lead.
  • Deliver an impactful combination of implementing the global / corporate comms strategy and content with creating unique approaches and materials dedicated to the market needs in Spain (aligned with corporate strategy).
  • Create and adapt high quality content for local external communication based on adapting global content and aligned with the corporate comms strategy (including campaign materials, press materials, social media materials, website content and other digital assets, leader briefings, etc)
  • Provide strategic support on communications to the General Manager and the country leadership team on activities with high impact for the company and the business.
  • Communications business partner to the key functions in the Almirall team in the Spanish market company, specifically: Marketing, Medical Affairs, Market Access, and Sales.
  • Monitor and track impact and success of communications tactics via a variety of metrics incl. media monitoring, digital channels, media coverage, etc. and continually adjust and improve based on insights.
  • Closely collaborate with the Corporate Comms team to ensure a holistic approach of communicating to all internal and external target audiences that is aligned with the corporate Comms strategy and plan (key focus on significant company milestones, pipeline news, and innovation stories).
  • Media relations for non-corporate outlets in Spain (focus on non-financial media, i.e. high value outlets targeting the broad public and HCPs on product and local reputational topics).
  • Deliver in a dynamic, high-pace environment, reacting swiftly to external and internal changes and adjusting the communication approaches accordingly. Issues and crisis management to ensure - where possible - issues are avoided and - if they arrive - are well managed.
  • Lead agency engagement and resourcing (potentially other third party suppliers) that will support the creation and execution of the market organisation´s Comms strategy in Spain. Manage budgets appropriately to deliver high value / high impact comms outcomes.
  • Build Comms capabilities and a Comms mindset across the market organisation in Spain and showcase the benefits of a fully integrated Comms function to the business.
  • Support the Corporate Communications Executive Director and corporate Comms team with local market insights, news updates, and feedback from Comms executions.

Education

  • Academic degree in either Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Business, or life sciences.

Experience

  • Minimum 10 years experience in communications (with a focus on strategic, external and internal communications and media relations)
  • Significant experience working in the healthcare, biotech, or pharmaceutical industries (alternatively in other highly regulated industries)
  • Passion for healthcare and making a difference with patients
  • Proven expertise in developing, implementing and measuring communication strategies and programmes to support achieving business objectives, especially through driving awareness and credibility of a corporate entity and products with focus on innovation
  • Track record of creating and executing innovative, engaging, and impactful communication strategies to reach relevant external and internal target audiences (general public, media, HCPs, scientists, authorities, employees)
  • Ideally experience in public affairs or government relations in Spain, specifically with authorities or industry associations.
  • Strong team player who is able to successfully engage multiple stakeholders inside and outside of the company, building and maintaining productive relationships – including with senior business leaders.
  • Very strong writing skills in Spanish, good written and spoken English
  • Critical thinking and can-do attitude to pinpoint opportunities, get consensus, and action
  • Experience in digital communications with an outcome-oriented mindset, working across multiple channels in an integrated and strategic way
  • Track record of successfully managing communication of complex (scientific) topics making them relevant and understandable for different audiences with tailored communication that is aligned with consistent overarching business messages.
  • Prior experience in supporting senior management in a consulting role in Communications and/or public affairs.
