Mission

Reporting to the RWE&OR Global Senior Director, the Patient Outcomes Research & Advocacy Manager will provide scientific expertise to research new and innovative  Patient Reported Outcomes that can better demonstrate the burden of skin conditions and the value that our medicines can provide. Through deep strategic scientific working partnerships with Patient Advocacy Groups and Scientific Research Organisations, the Patient Outcomes Research & Advocacy Manager will include the voice of the patient from the very start of Almirall’s research program to ensure that Almirall continues to lead outcomes research in dermatology.


 

Tasks and Responsibilities

Starting with desk-based research focused upon Patient Reported Outcomes, you will gain a deep understanding of the published literature. This will lead to identifying potential gaps/opportunities that have not been studied in dermatology. Through scientific discussions with Patient Advocacy Groups (PAGs) and Scientific Societies you will be able to develop new and meaningful endpoints that can be further developed and tested in our clinical development and RWE programs.

Advocacy development:

Identify and map out medical experts leading in the field of patient reported outcomes and value-based medicine

Engage in peer-to-peer level scientific discussions to develop projects and long-term collaborations with key academic research centers

Represent Almirall as the main point of contact with International Scientific and Research organisations (eg EADV, WCD, SPIN, ISPOR)

Identify and map out PAGs representing people suffering from skin conditions (eg. IFPA, Global Skin, EFA)

Develop strong and effective collaborations with relevant international PAGs leading to a better understanding of the needs of patients

Collaborate with the scientific committee of PAGs to develop scientific solutions that better identify the needs of dermatology patients and develop new and innovative PROs that can be used in our clinical trial and RWE programs.

Develop and maintain

  • A high level of scientific knowledge and expertise in dermatological conditions
  • A high level of expertise in designing and running studies – particularly RWE and OR
  • A thorough understanding of the current new product reimbursement system with a view to informing, educating and advising patient groups to ensure the patient voice is considered and that access to innovative medicines is delivered in a timely fashion
  • A thorough understanding of Healthcare Compliance Business Integrity

Define and develop

In collaboration with Global Medical Affairs, Global Sustainability, Global R&D and Global Clinical Development teams - a patient group engagement and advocacy strategy at a corporate/global level

Lead the Patient Engagement Initiatives Review Committee, ensuring all relevant patient initiatives are reviewed and endorsed, and effectively executed

Provide expertise and support to the development of Global Medical Strategic plans/Clinical Development Plans (CDP) , Global Medical Affairs (GMA) activities and Global Corporate Strategic plan

Support internal & external communication around specific Health Awareness Days/PAG initiatives, and work in close collaboration with Global Communication teams to highlight Almirall engagement with PAGs, Strengthen the image of Almirall, positioning Almirall as a patient centric company focused on making a positive impact upon patients’ lives

Monitor progress against targets. Develop appropriate KPIs to monitor and report performance of programs and activities, quality of materials, for continued improvement in future activities

Ensure that all deliverables are achieved within budget, with the highest standard of quality, in compliance with all applicable quality processes, external requirements, ethical standards, and business needs

Education and experience

  • Minimum Master’s degree in Life Science, PhD level preferrable
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Medical Affairs/R&D setting
  • Proven experience of developing RWE&OR data is mandatory
  • Professional experience in a Medical Expert Engagement/Patient Engagement or Advocacy, Public Affairs is highly preferred
