Mission

Provide medical leadership for the Almirall Psoriasis and Actinic Keratosis portfolio and pipeline in the UK & Ireland.

Contribute to and deliver the medical strategy for the UK & Ireland in line with wider global and regional Medical Affairs and business needs and provide leadership to ensure a scientifically credible service is delivered to both internal and external customers.

Fulfil a non-selling field-based role which develops and delivers clear and balanced communication based on scientific and clinical data in order to ensure safe use of Almirall medicines, and to build valued partnerships between Almirall and scientific & clinical stakeholders.

 

Core Responsibilities

1. The Field Medical Manager will provide medical insight and leadership for the psoriasis and AK portfolio and pipeline. (50% Time Allocation)

  • Responsible for all aspects of Medical Affairs including medical support of existing medicines in psoriasis and actinic keratosis, leadership of country led studies, Medical Expert mapping and contact, Medical Expert relationship development and will work closely with Commercial, Regulatory, Pharmacovigilance colleagues and other teams, e.g. Value & Access, Medical Information, Quality & Publications.
  • Further to leading strategy, key responsibilities include risk management, scientific input to recalls/alerts, Medical Expert development and Almirall brand building via customer meetings and presentations, colleague training, marketing support and promotional compliance activities as required.
  • Devise and implement the medical strategy and operational plan for the allocated therapy, franchise(s) or medicine(s) consistent with the growth and launch plans for global Dermatology division.
  • Provide leadership and support to the Field Medical Team (i.e. Medical Science Liaison) with regards to psoriasis and actinic keratosis, as applicable, working together to support the Commercial Plans.
  • Ensure that all the psoriasis and actinic keratosis related activities are carried out in a fully compliant manner in accordance with Almirall policies, country laws and regulations. Act as the primary ABPI Signatory for all materials relating to psoriasis and/or actinic keratosis .
  • Take an active role as a key member of the wider Almirall Medical Affairs team at a global level to ensure it meets and exceeds its goals.
  • Responsibility for the provision of medical input to relevant national, regional and local Market Access submissions for psoriasis and actinic keratosis e.g. NICE/SMC.
  • Contribute to the development of the cross-functionally aligned operational plan, in support of country strategies

2. The Field Medical Manager will act as a field-based Medical Affairs expert in London and the South East of England. (50% Time Allocation)

  • Provide a field-based enquiry service for defined Almirall medicines in response to unsolicited medical request and medical information procedures across London and South East England.
  • Define and deliver a field-based medical plan for the 4 strategic accounts in London and South East England
  • Under specific direction from the UK Medical Director, support the development and delivery of Corporate medical activities including late stage trials, independent investigator research and other relevant medical projects in partnership with HO based colleagues.
  • Provide technical support to the wider business through the delivery of appropriate on-label accurate and balanced scientific and medical information to external medical stakeholders
  • Participate in partnership working with external scientific, research and clinical stakeholders.
  • Engage with Medical Experts in relation to Advisory Board activities
  • Support Brand Team excellence with collaborative working
  • Demonstrate a cross functional collaborative proactive approach which is solution orientated.
  • Maintain in depth scientific knowledge including patient perspective.
  • Proactively share insights to support company goals for both short and long term.

 

3. Lead and embed a culture, way of working and processes that support a fully compliant operational environment.

Required Education and Experience

  • Medical university degree (Medical/Pharmacy) with current UK registration as a Medical Practitioner and Pharmacist is mandatory
  • The ideal candidate will be an experienced Medical Affairs leader with knowledge of and a track record of delivery in dermatology field as a clinician or within the pharmaceutical industry
  • Dermatology/immunology knowledge is preferred either through clinical practice and/or pharmaceutical roles
  • In depth knowledge of the ABPI Code of Practice. Experienced medical reviewer and signatory is mandatory.
  • Proven relationship building with key opinion leaders
  • Experience of creating/contributing to NICE/SMC submissions would be preferred
  • Professional level language proficiency in English, both oral and in written communications
  • Knowledge of commercialisation and business practices
  • Knowledge of Regulatory Affairs and drug safety practices
  • Ideally experience of Phase IV clinical study management and conduct
  • Ideally scientific publications record.

  • Working in a matrix organisation, leveraging off other businesses and functions be an equal player in scarce resource allocation discussions.
  • Support marketing colleagues to segment the market and lead medical input into planning process for Dermatology
  • Clear, concise and comprehensive verbal and written communications. Be straightforward and act in time. Ability to present in an effective and compelling manner to various stakeholders. 
  • Full knowledge and efficient application of business software and web systems.
